HOW WE GET THINGS DONE
HOW MVO NEDERLAND WORKS ON A WORLDWIDE FUTUREPROOF ECONOMY
Our national economies are intertwined with those of developing countries. Most of what you find on sale in Europe is at least partly manufactured in one or more developing economies. This relationship brings mutual benefits, but responsibilities as well. MVO Nederland helps Dutch companies to take their responsibility by setting a new CSR benchmark for their sector and identifying opportunities for sustainable trade.
True cost accounting as a new tool for transparency in the Dutch coffee trade. Processing paddy straw into furniture items instead of burning it. Introducing chrome-free, environmentally friendly leather production in upcoming sourcing destinations. These are just three examples of how MVO Nederland helps Dutch companies and their suppliers in developing economies to establish sustainable trade practices.

ABOUT MVO NEDERLAND
MVO Nederland is the movement for entrepreneurs in the New Economy. This economy is climate-neutral, circular, inclusive and has fair (trade) chains. With 2,000 affiliated entrepreneurs, we are Europe’s largest sustainable business network, a network of partners who innovate and implement together in order to achieve a futureproof economy.
Together we:
- improve existing value chains
- support companies with sustainable innovations and business models to enter into international markets
- lobby for a better environment for entrepreneurs
Our mission is to achieve a situation whereby 20 percent of Dutch GDP circulates in the New Economy. We aim to reach this tipping point no later than 2025.

BUSINESS WITH IMPACT
In 2018 MVO Nederland started the ‘Business with Impact’ (Dutch: ‘Omzet met Impact’) programme, introducing a new approach to encourage sustainable trade in emerging economies. In this programme MVO Nederland matches coalitions of Dutch entrepreneurs with entrepreneurs in emerging markets. After research into promising market opportunities, (pilot) projects are being implemented to realise fair and sustainable trade and investments.
Companies must at least comply with the OECD guidelines and contribute significantly to the Sustainable Development Goals. The result: sustainable sourcing, production and delivery, thereby making a measurable contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. The Business with Impact programme is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
